I'm concerned for Christina's career

I'm concerned for Christina's career

The first week sales are not very good. She only sold 110,000 in her first week and debuted at #3. That's the worst of her career. I'm not playing the blame game because that won't help anybody. I just feel there are some issues that need to be addressed before it's too late.

I think the real issue is marketing. The promo may have been nice, but was it effective? I think Christina needs to start utilizing other markets now. As much as I hate to say it, Pop radio is not her bread and butter anymore.

She needs to reach out to the urban market (Woohoo) the adult contemporary market (You Lost Me) and especially the latin market (Desnudate) and start building from the ground up again. Times have changed. She can't rely on her name alone to sell anymore. Several major pop stations didn't even add Not Myself Tonight in roatation.

During her debut she was on Soul Train, BET Awards, Essence Awards, etc. but was still huge on Pop. Multiple formats is KEY.

Do you realize she hasn't stepped foot in one international market to promote this album yet? Not one. That's astonishing to me. Of course she still has plenty of time, but she's been gone 4 years! She can't come back and expect everything to be the same.

I am Christina's most dedicated fan but it takes incidents like this to re-evaluate things. They happen for a reason and I truly believe this will make Christina realize that things need to change. She has no choice now. Her music is great, her voice is as amazing as ever so this is by no means a reflection on Christina the artist. Her team just need to start adapting to the times. It's not 1999 anymore. Christina is a veteran now and with that she needs to be more business savy.

btw, Christina is huge in Latin America. She hasn't toured there in YEARS. That's a problem.

She will promote over seas when SHE not RCA feels the time is right... If she came to the UK for example that means she would have to then go France Germany etc. and she obviously feels the time isn't right to be flying her entire team of dancers band sets and whatever else she needs on top of her SON and everything he needs... when she feels the need to come here she will come and probably have a long stay in Europe in each country and then move on to other continents/countries! Right now the album is doing very well on its own, and if Christina came all over the place straight away, it will have a huge high and a big drop, this way its slow and progressively get better and better, its like a balloon blow it up too fast it will pop, blow it up slowly it will last longer!

The cd's only been out for a short time, and you already calling it a flop? Oookay, can you say "I wanted high sales for bragging."

Also, how do you know she's not going to promote outside the States?

@MO-Xtina: You have to try to put yourself in Christina's shoes...

She's a full time mother... and she has been a full time recording artist promoting at so many shows...

She can't go overseas it must mean she can't go... you know how tiring plane rides are??

It's not like she doesn't want to see her fans or she's bad at marketing...

She is putting things into perspective...

there's no point of overworking yourself...

She has to put HERSELF and her son in front of others... not others in front of her.

Boy some fans can really be pushy. All I gotta say is, if this making you re-evaluate things, then perhaps your not really as big a fan as you say you are.

    Your just intersted in popularity.

Christina's a big girl, she can take care of her own business. Don't need you, mine or anyone else's imput.

Yeah, it would be easy to churn out a bunch of generic pop songs, but what would be the point. It wouldn't be her. Bionic's a great cd. So what either way if it sells or not, you know popularity does not equal quality and it's hasn't been out that long. I think your maybe jumping the gun a little bit and being a little presumptious with your "ideas".

That's why I am me, and you are you we won't ever think alike for that reason. So it's not what you or any other poster thinks that I am interested in when I'm moderating.

  • Kichigai 06.15.2010

@candee2 I don't think this post is negative. MO-Xtina is just suggesting a possible solution to Christina Aguilera's ailing career.

  • Kichigai 06.15.2010

Thanks for sharing. Also, is there a second single being released from the album? If so, do you know what it is?

  • candee2 06.15.2010

One of the things people on LD have is a problem thinking that the posters decide what and how a forums should be run. I don't need anyone's opinion on what is offtopic and what is not, this isn't LD nor any of your other forums, what is offtopic for this site is for this site and if it's placed here, it's placed for a reason, a moderators reason.

Now on LD you guys may run the system, here you do not and you will not.

This post is negative, this post isn't about how Christina performed on a recent program, it's not a news article, it's a negative opinion about Christina, we may as well post everything Perez says if we were to allow this negativity under her name.

So hell yes your negative rant is off topic.

Just so everyone knows Christina is IN CONTROL of every aspect of her career, INCUDING marketing. again, she is doing everything she is doing for a reason. beleive me when i say, she knows how to make generic pop music! and if she really wanted to put out an album that blasted to #1, she knows how to make radio "hits" she even said in an interview that many "hits" were presented to her, and she knew they were radio bangers, but thats not what she is going for this time around. if she wanted to be #1, belive me, she could be. she knows she's gonna be around for a long time, so she's doing what SHE wants to do.. and i would LOVE Bionic to be #1, dont get me wrong. but i dont think thats why she made Bionic.

  • babykane 06.15.2010

Yea I agree this should be in the Christina related thread and not off topic :S

  • babykane 06.15.2010

Yea she didn't put a foot on international ground to promote Bionic and still debuted at #1 in the UK and top 10 in other countries I think the album has done well!

I love Christina and I never said she wasn't successful but these are the worst first week sale sof her entire career. Not Myself Tonight flopped on radio. Anyone with common sense knows her career is struggling right now, which is why it's important that fans are able to voice their opinions and RCA and management should consider our ideas. Afterall we are the ones who made her successful.

I'm still not sure why a Christina related topic is Off topic, but Candee2 is being ridiculous so I'm not surprised.

  • XtinaNation 06.15.2010

the same thing happened with stripped.. because it was REAL music, nobody knew what to do with it. Bionic will be epic.. just wait and see, this is what happens when something long lasting comes into play.. if it was generic pop it would be in & out. this isn't like that, Bionic is going to slowly keep growing untill its taken over.. trust me, Christina has been around for a while Smile she knows what she's doing.

  • Sam 06.15.2010

She's #1 in UK and #3 in Australia...

if you don't call that success... i don't know what you'd call it...

    ---

Nowadays, everywhere you go, you hear people saying "she's got a big voice, best voice, wonderful voice"

In her debut days, not a lot of people knew that she had a voice that rivals that of Whitney houston or mariah carey...

    --

So to sum it up, I think she's more successfully nowaday....

  • candee2 06.15.2010

It's a problem for you, not Christina, and if the people who work with her find it a problem they'll deal with it THERE way.

Christina already has told her fans what she feels about her music, try listening to her for a change. Her career is in one of the best shapes in the industry cause she's doing it her way with success.

You may not like it, but you don't count for her happiness just your own, which makes your opinion null and void in her world and your letter laughable.
