Released on October 26, 2002, Stripped was Christina's second English-sung studio album, and an incredibly sexy departure from her comparatively innocent debut. Christina effectively took creative control over her recording process for the first time here, co-producing and co-writing fourteen of its songs, under the influence of musical styles ranging from rhythm and blues, to gospel, to soul, to pop rock, and hip hop. Stripped debuted at number 2 on the Billboard Top 200 Chart, spawned two UK number-one hits in "Dirrty" and "Beautiful" (which peaked at #2 in the U.S.) and was supported by the legendary Justified/Stripped Tour, co-headlined with Justin Timber, as well as the Stripped World Tour in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia. Four Grammy nominations followed, namely Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals for "Dirrty" and "Can't Hold Us Down", Best Pop Vocal Album, Song of the Year ("Beautiful"), and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance ("Beautiful"), which Christina won.
