Christina's third album, Back to Basics, was released on August 15, 2006 and countered the modern sounds and risque visuals of 2002's Stripped, with a wholly unexpected throwback to the '20s, '30s, and '40s-style jazz, blues, and feel-good soul music, with a modern twist. To the public at large, this seemed like yet another shocking creative reinvention on Christina's part, but the singer had in fact been exposed to classic pop, soul, jazz and blues records as a child, citing specific inspiration from Billie Holiday, Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, Etta James and Ella Fitzgerald, behind these new songs - all of which Christina co-wrote. Back to Basics launched several hit singles, including "Ain't No Other Man", "Hurt", and "Candyman," and received Grammy nominations in the categories of Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance ("Candyman"), and a win in the Best Female Pop Vocal Performance category ("Ain't No Other Man").
